education and training unit

The TVET Unit operates as a specialized department in the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Science, Technology, and Vocational Training. Its primary responsibility is to enhance technical skills within the school education system actively.

The Unit’s principal goal is to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes, enabling them to pursue either workforce opportunities after graduation or further education and training in specific fields. This objective entails meticulous planning, development, and implementation of a competency-focused curriculum.

To fulfill its mission, the Unit supervises a variety of subject areas, including fourteen technical, vocational, and business subjects within the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) curriculum. This approach ensures students acquire a diverse knowledge base and become prepared for various industries.

Furthermore, the TVET Unit takes charge of implementing two significant qualifications in schools – the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) and National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). These industry-driven qualifications aim to equip students with practical skills essential for success in the real world.
